Sopron is one of the most beautiful cities in Hungary.
There is so much to discover in the city centre, which looks like a maze of charming little streets,
with medieval historical buildings, the Fire Tower, the Church of the Goats and many ancient ruins.
The Fire Tower is the symbol of Sopron. Its baroque onion dome with the two-headed eagle rises 58 metres high, making it visible from several points of the city.
The tower’s perimeter offers an unparalleled view of the city centre and the Lövère mountains surrounding Sopron.
From the Fidelity Fountain, passing through the Front Gate, you enter the Main Square, whose layout and the location of its buildings have remained unchanged since the 13th century. The names of the Main Square reflect the passage of time and its role in the life of the town.
One of the most famous churches in the city. It stands on the Main Square, opposite the Fire Tower. Franciscan Church, Benedictine Church, Hungarian Church, Church of the Goats, Church of the Assumption – all names refer to the Church of the Assumption (Benedictine) of Sopron.
